The national top ten

As the name suggests, Countdown would also inform all of the latest national top ten hits for that week. The show would build up to a cresendo of excitement and anticipation to see what the new number one song was and which number one hit just held on.

When ABBA's 'Fernando' was released for 14 weeks the national chart became irrelevent as no other song got close to number one. A very fed up and frustrated Countdown production team made the only plausable decision, and refused to play the song again on the show.

Test your knowledge and look at what made the nation's top ten during some of the years that Countdown aired.
