Daryl Braithwaite

Daryl was born in Melbourne on 11th January 1949 and moved to Sydney in the 60s. After fronting several bands he joined Sherbet in 1970. Daryl performed to rave reviews in the rock opera Tommy in 1973 .The show was performed twice and featured the cream of the Australian music scene (Jim Keays, Billy Thorpe, Doug Parkinson and The Who’s Keith Moon).
After the success of Tommy, Daryl recorded the Cilla Black hit 'You’re my world' which went to number one nationally in November 1974. He followed up with further hits 'Cavalry', 'Old Sid' and 'Love has no pride' all the while remaining with Sherbet.
After Sherbet split in 1984, Daryl took time off from music and re-appeared in 1988 with the number one album Edge with the popular single 'As the days go by' and 'One Sumer'. He followed this up in 1991 with the album Rise which featured the number one hit 'Horses' and frequently played 'Higher than Hope'.
Daryl continues to record and tour today and is fondly remembered as a mainstay of Countdown. The friendly rivalry between Daryl and Shirley Strachan on the Countdown set still stirs emotions today.
Sherbet or Skyhooks? You choose!
In 2006 the boys from Sherbet returned to the stage to blow away audiences in the Countdown Spectacular Tour.

Higher than hope
Sherbet were a great band to me back in those days, Daryl is still doing gigs around the country. Keep up the great work Daryl. Also Garth Porter is a truly amazing songwriter for our Aussie Country artists.
Daryl
I saw Daryl last year in Brisbane and he still sang well. He was a little hesitant to sing very many of the sherbet greats....... Horses was great, but the crowd went off when summer love came on. I felt I was back watching count down and Garth had hair........
