Marty Rhone

Marty Rhone (real name Carl van Rhoon) had a pre-Countdown career in the 60s with his band the Soul Agents. He recorded for the prestigious Spin label along with the Bee Gees and Ronnie Burns amongst others. His 1966 single ‘Village tapestry’ has the Bee Gees backing him.

Marty was conscripted into the army in 1970 and after his two years service he studied music at the Conservatorium of Music for a further two years. He scored a major national hit with ‘Denim and Lace’ in 1975. He had a further hit with ‘Mean pair of jeans’ in 1977 and represented Australia at the World Song contest in Tokyo in 1976 with ‘On the loose again’.

1975    ‘Denim and Lace’ released
1975    Marty hosts an episode of Countdown.

1978    Marty appears in London's stage production of The King and I.

Marty continues to tour and perform in more recent years.
