Max Merritt and The Meteors

New Zealand born Max Merritt has remained at the top of his profession for six decades. Starting in New Zealand with his first single ‘Get a Haircut’ in 1958 through to his smash hit in 1976 with ‘Slippin’ Away’, Max Merritt has well and truly served his music apprenticeship.
Supporting the Rolling Stones in Australia in 1966 through to supporting The Moody Blues and Slade in the U.K, Max has had many ups and downs including losing an eye in a car accident in 1967. After many hits in Australia in the 60s, Max ended up working as a brick- layer in the U.K after the Meteors disbanded in 1974. A new Meteors was put together and as a result the album A Little Easier was released and spawned two hits, the title track ‘A little easier’ and what has now become Max’s signature tune ‘Slippin’ away’.
These days Max lives in the U.S. and visits Australia often. Max Merritt & The Meteors continue to entertain audiences whenever Max and the band return to Australia. During visits over the past couple of years, Max and the band have headlined shows at the Melbourne Music & Blues Festival, The Perth Moonlight Festival, The Byron Bay Blues Festival, The Veterans Games in Alice Springs and The Queenscliff Festival.
