Pseudo Echo

Pseudo Echo were an Australian New Romantic band. Formed in the early 80s by school friends Brian Canham and Pierre Gigliotti the band completed its line-up with Anthony Agiro and Tony Lugton.

Their first album Autumnal Park yielded ‘Listening’, ‘Stranger in me’, ‘Dancing till midnight’, and ‘Beat for you’. The album brought the band considerable popularity and placed them next to INXS as one of the biggest Australian bands in 1984. Another single from the album His Eyes received exposure in the U.S. as it was used in the movie Friday the 13th.

In 1986 the band released their second album, Love an adventure, which was a success with several singles from that album topping the Australian charts including the title track, ‘Don't go’, ‘Try’, and ‘Living in a Dream’. The album was re-released the following year to include their remake of the Lipps Inc. song ‘Funkytown’, which brought the group their biggest international success, reaching number six on the Billboard top 10 in the USA in 1987, as well as spending six weeks at number one in Australia.

In 1989 the bands third album, Race featured singles ‘Fooled again’, ‘Over tomorrow’, ‘Eye of the storm’, and ‘Don't you forget’. The album wasn't as successful as previous releases, and Pseudo Echo disbanded shortly after touring in 1990.

The band reunited in 1999 to produce the EP Funkytown Y2K: RMX, which included six new remixes of ‘Funkytown’. A year later, they released the double-CD Teleporter (2000), which featured four all-new tracks, five re-mixed tracks, and a live performance in Melbourne.

In 2006 Brian Canham returned to the stage to blow away audiences in the Countdown Spectacular Tour.
