Richard Clapton

A former commercial artist, Richard Clapton started his musical career in 1967 and it wasn’t until 1975 that his self penned ‘Girls on the avenue’ became a hit. The album of the same name charted well and Clapton has since become an elder statesman of Australian music. Other hits from the 70s include ‘Deep water’ and ‘Capricorn dancer’.

Countdown tip - Festival records didn’t like ‘Girls on the avenue ‘ and released it as the ‘B’ side. The record reached number two on the national charts.

Bio reference - 'Countdown - The Wonder Years' DVD/CD. Researched and written by Brendon Pearce.
