Suzi Quatro

Suzi Quatro was born in Detroit on the 3rd of June 1950. She was discovered by Mickie Most, an English record producer of the late 60's. Suzi was performing in a band with her sisters, called the Pleasure Seekers. Mickie did not like the sound of the band, but saw something special in Suzi. He invited her to come to England to make a record, and she eventually took him up on the offer in 1971.

In 1973 after a couple of hiccups, ‘Can the Can’ was released, and Suzi Quatro screamed her way up the charts to the No 1 position in the UK, European, Japanese and Australian charts. The debut album also titled Can the Can was released in Australia in 1973.The second single titled ‘48 Crash’ reached No 3 in Australia. Suzi also did a version of Elvis Presley's ‘All shook up’ for the Can the Can album, and it was released as a single in the USA. When Presley heard the version, he was so impressed by it he invited Suzi to come to meet him at Graceland.

1974 saw the release of Suzi's second album Quatro, which spawned three hit singles, ‘The Wild One’, ‘Too Big’ and Suzi's signature song, ‘Devil Gate Drive’. This was Suzi's biggest selling album in Australia, and sat at No 1 for four weeks. Suzi also toured Australia twice in that year.

1975 came along and  Suzi's third album titled Your Mama Won't Like Me, was released. The title track of the album was released as a single, reaching No 15 on the Australian single charts. This was a different style of album, a funkier style, which suited Suzi as she was moving with the times. ‘Michael’ was the second single to be released and also charted quite well.

In 1977 Suzi appeared in 8 episodes of Happy Days where she portrayed the part of Leather Tuscedero.

1978 saw the release of the If you knew Suzi album, which showed Quatro’s softer side. The album showcased a slower singing style with more ballad-type songs like, ‘If you can't give me love’ and ‘The race is on’. This was the year that saw Suzi hit No 1 worldwide with ‘Stumblin In’, her duet with the lead singer of Smokie Chris Norman.

1979 saw the release of Suzi and other four letter words. This was a new wave style of rock album. The hit singles from this album were ‘She's in love with you’ and ‘Mama's Boy’.

Then came Rock Hard in September 1980 which put Suzi Quatro back into the Rock n Roll genre.  Both the album and the single of the same name went platinum in Australia, and Ian Molly Meldrum presented Suzi at the 1981 Countdown awards with both Platinum for the album and the single.

Suzi Quatro is still recording, and touring.
