The Ferrets

After a three year stint performing in Jesus Christ Superstar, Australian musician Billy Miller (pictured) got together with Philip Eizenberg (guitar), Kenneth Firth (bass guitar, backing vocals) and David Springfield (guitar, backing vocals) to form The Ferrets. They were soon joined by drummer Rick Brewer.

After touring Melbourne and Sydney, the band soon caught the attention of Molly Meldrum, the then talent coordinator for Countdown, and Meldrum signed them to Mushroom Records.

Two years later in 1977, the Ferrets released their debut album Dreams of a Love. That same year they premiered on Countdown in an episode hosted by Jon English, performing the album’s B side track “Don’t Fall in Love”. The single proved to be the band’s biggest hit, reaching #2 in Australia, and propelling their debut album to Gold record status.

The Ferrets continued to tour and in 1978 recorded their second album Fame At Any Price, which resulted in disappointing sales.

The following year in 1979, the Ferrets disbanded, with each member going on to form subsequent music careers. In 2006 Miller returned to the stage to blow away audiences in the Countdown Spectacular Tour.
