Uncanny X-Men

Uncanny X-Men were formed in 1980/81, first as a four-piece band featuring Brian Mannix, Ron Thiessen, Nick Matandos and Michael Helms. Chuck Hargreaves later joined. The band fast became a popular live act around Melbourne’s pubs, forming a loyal following.

Their first EP Salive One, was recorded November 2 1982, two days after they landed a contract with Michael Gudinski's Mushroom Records. The Single from the EP 'Pakistan' reached number 11 in the Melbourne charts and number 39 nationally. The band released their follow up single ‘Time goes so fast’ in August 1983.

The Beach Party EP followed and was recorded live at the Chevron Hotel in Sydney on June 17 1984. It contained the hit single ‘Everybody wants to work’.

In early 1985 they supported Rod Stewart on a national tour. They then released the singles ‘50 years’ and ‘Party’ from the the album Cos Life Hurts (produced by Skyhooks Red Symonds). The album generated sales of over half a million.

The album What you give is what you get! was released in 1986. The album spawned the singles ‘I Am’, ‘Start believing’, and ‘Don't wake me’. By 1987, the X-Men star had started to fade and the band played their last gig at the Armadale Hotel in Melbourne on December 20 1987.

In 2006 Brian returned to the stage to blow away audiences in the Countdown Spectacular Tour.
