Ultimately Countdown was all about the music. Molly's ongoing battles with the production team to get bands appearing on the show are legendary still today amongst ABC corridors. He was champion of new Australian acts and had a good eye for potential winners. Bands such as Skyhooks, INXS, AC/DC, Australian Crawl, Cold Chisel, Hunters and Collectors, Mondo Rock, Sherbet, Men At Work, Little River Band, Split Enz, Crowded House, all debuted nationally on "Countdown".
